More recently than not, I have been paying more attention to the changing places and spaces around me.
– Getting smaller
– Getting married to mobile phones to give birth to a new generation of tablet computers (Hi, iPad)
– Giving way to broadband mobile on the go
– Being replaced altogether with mobile phones that can do everything – like the soon-to-be-released Google mobile phone that contains a chip to allow you to ‘tap and pay’…
Crikey. I don’t recognize this world anymore… So many shiny new things!!
I am genuinely excited (fascinated?) at what seems to be a snowball of creativity double-teamed with revolutionary technology. It looks like soon, self-accelerating computers may just be able to solve almost all of life’s problems.
Here’s another fun find…

Today, Google launched their high fashion shopping website: http://www.boutiques.com. This is what it says on their blog post:
“a personalized shopping experience that lets you find and discover fashion goods, by creating your own curated boutique or through a collection of boutiques curated by taste-makers—celebrities, stylists, designers and fashion bloggers. Boutiques uses computer vision and machine learning technology to visually analyze your taste and match it to items you would like”.
So this website has a “learning algorithm” that can learn people’s taste based on your profile. You can either create your own (by telling the system what you love or hate) or click on the preset ones based on the style of 32 celebrities or bloggers etc.
Not only can it learn people styles, it can even suggest items to complete your look by rules stylist had pre-entered into the software of what would work with what, or what’s a big no no. On top of that, if there’s an item that you like the styling but not the color or the print, you can tell the system and it will search for similar style in different color/print for you. How smart is that? This can really change the whole online shopping experience! Love!

I love ‘learning algorithms’! So clever. Did you know that Facebook uses this intuitive technology too? I wrote something about it before… here. That is probably why we love using it so much!
(Yes, I have embraced technology… I wonder what the bible says about it?)
