Asian Food Channel’s Amazing Food Challenge – our TV show trailer is finally released!

Our Amazing Food Challenge trailer on Asian Food Channel FB page and TV channel is out. Are you as excited to see the show as I am? If you check out the thrilling trailer, you’ll see what I mean!

The Amazing Food Challenge was commissioned by the Philippines Tourism Board, and was orchestrated by some of the most brilliant minds in scripting and production from Singaporeans, Malaysians, to Filipinos and even Americans – one of the consulting producers on this show helped with casting and producing on the hit US series ‘Survivor’, so you can only imagine the kind of magic that went into the Amazing Food Challenge! I applied for this show not even expecting to get a reply! What an honour that they ended up choosing little adventurous me, one of 10 total Challengers, out of 5000 other applicants.

Big ups to the epic excitement that they created and put us through for this incredible series. Here are some of my favourite moments from the trailer and Asian Food Channel’s first travel reality show:

My after-thoughts on 3 Peas in a Pod Movie Premiere – <>
A MICHELLE CHONG FILM

Let me be brutally honest. I didn’t expect this movie to be so thoughtful. The simple movie poster and YouTube trailers offered me the impression that this could be one of those sickeningly-sweet films with a safe and predictable ending. Is this along the lines of the kind of soap opera-esque drama, that you might mindlessly watch while texting on the phone and listening to music, only occasionally turning your attention to the screen for the eye candy? Not at all! I don’t think anyone in the theatre saw this coming.

The show opens with the youths strolling around on my old stomping grounds, University of Melbourne. You very quickly learn the identities of each character and laugh a little at them as they play it out on screen (we all secretly see a bit of ourselves in them). They decide to go on a road trip after graduation, which of course, as any Melbourne University student has done, involves the picturesque Grampians and Great Ocean Road. I really spent so much of my life in these places, and anyone who has too spent time in Australia will find in these scenes a piece of their heart as I did. Sweeping panoramas of the gorgeous Australian landscape is captured and justified by beautiful camera work, and the audience sits comfortably in their movie seat, riding along with the characters on this special trip. Michelle Chong’s script is beyond boy-meets-girl – it is brave and witty with so many parts of the story, making the rest of the journey a not-so-standard holiday.

The triple threat cast brimming with teenage good looks definitely executed Michelle Chong’s script to its finest detail, and they each achieved a harmonious mix of superstar material while still staying relatable. I have so much respect for the three young actors as they each delivered genuine performances, despite not being professional actors. Calvin Chen and Alexander Lee Eusebio are popsters from their respective countries, Taiwan and Korea, while 22-year old sales assistant turned lead female actress Jae Liew had no acting experience before! She switched immaculately between Mandarin and American-accented English and was heartwarming to watch. As the plot grows thick, I relish the sharpness of the characters as the audience gets to know them. I won’t ruin the road trip, so watch it and you’ll see what I mean – Expect self-discovery, cheekiness, freedom, hurt, and humor.

I truly recommend this movie for anyone who’s young, or doesn’t mind a throwback to their youth. I definitely found a ton of deja vus flooding back into my memory bank, and I’m sure you’ll feel the same too.

If by the end of the movie you’re not mentally planning your next trip to Australia, you’ll at least be reminiscing about your antics in school!

Thank you so much for having me at the premiere, it was so nice to see so many old friends and familiar faces!

Did you hear me on the radio? Did I sound like a toad?

I was had a little conversation on air with HotFM 91.3’s bubbly Charmaine Yee on Monday!

Thanks to those who Facebooked, Tweeted or messaged me about it. Haha. I hope i didn’t sound like a toad! They introduced me as a celeb blogger (how nice, does that mean someone is going to start paying me ‘celebrity’ monies now?!:D). I spoke about the YouTube fan fest event I was attending, along with the song I wrote/played/sang (see my embarrassing video in previous post) about delightful YouTube boy David Choi. Through that, I got to meet him and hang out. It was all quite amusing!

It’s nice to hear that I sounded quite natural. The truth is, the official on-air discussion lasted about 5min and I wasn’t in the studio, so it literally felt like I was just picking up my phone and chatting with a telemarketer.

Except that Charmaine Yee wasn’t selling me anything.

If she ever does, I’ll probably buy it.

Listen to her sexy voice on 91.3FM in Singapore!

PS/IMPORTANT: Thanks to everyone who’s been so supportive of my blogging journey. My Dad asked me when I was like 11 years old/young, “if there’s one thing in life you want to do, and you wouldn’t get paid a single cent, what would you do?”

Of course at that age, I had no idea what blogging was but I replied, “I think I like to write. And make people laugh.”

He laughed. And said, “Well, then you really probably won’t get paid a cent then. But go ahead and do it!”

And so I did. Thanks Dad! ^_^

What is the difference between bloggers and members of the traditional media? – My debate piece for NotaTourist.Sg

Hey guys, sorry it’s been a crazy week so far. Some of the biggest Tech players/entrepreneurs/VCs are in town and I’m busy chasing them around! And of course, there has been the ubiquitous partying… Before I update about all that excitement, here is an article/debate piece I wrote recently that was featured on NotaTourist.sg.

I tried to defend all the bloggers in the Singapore blogosphere, while still remaining unbiased to the people from traditional media. After all, my work background was in traditional print media you know (back in the day, I worked for a magazine and then for our local newspapers). I hope you read the piece on NotaTourist’s site and leave me a comment here!

Let me know if you think I am being fair!

FORMULA 1 PARTY FUN – Avalon, Filter, Pangaea, Johnnie Walker, Ferrari, and Sky Grand Prix Fashion TV x Fashion Vodka party at rooftop spot Zafferano hosted by me

Every year, Formula 1 never fails to stress me and impress me. I get so many smses and Facebook messages asking for tickets to the race, Johnnie Walker, Pangaea, and other parties. It’s an explosion on my phone.

It’s like my birthday… but no presents…

Formula 1 also brings about crazy things. The people, the parties, sometimes the prices also…

Spent time with some of the Miss Universes from Iceland, Thailand, New Zealand, Singapore, and more.

Every year, there are lots of special acts brought in just for the F1 period. Last year, LMFAO tore it up!

Avalon had just opened and it was one of ‘the’ places to check out.

Johnnie Walker was one of the most anticipated events yet

Filter was the usual frivolity…

Pangaea soon made their stamp as the most expensive nightclub in SG yet.

Met up with Greg Teo before the official opening of Avalon – Greg is one of the best race driver in Singapore and races for Ital Racing and Ferrari.

The official Ferrari party last year at Resorts World Sentosa was red hot! The Ferrari team was there to represent, and a few of the who’s who in the F1 scene was seen.

All the cameras were trying to get a glimpse of the Ferrari team. I was luckier.. I had drinks with Ferrari team manager Nicolas Todt (Jean Todt’s son). He was pretty quiet, but was nice!

I called some girlfriends along to help make it fun.

This year will be no different.

I will be working this year at a F1 party for Fashion TV and Fashion TV Vodka, as their FIRST BLOGGER-HOST! The video that I will be hosting will be broadcasted on their cable TV channel, to 120 million viewers in Asia and 400 million viewers globally. I’ll also probably get an online copy so I can put it on here and show it to you peeps. Saturday will be banging for sure!

Date: Sat 22 Sept 2012
Time: 6pm till late
Valisere Lingerie fashion show at 1030pm
Venue: Zafferano (Ocean Financial Centre, Level 43 10 Collyer Quay, Singapore 049315)

630pm-930pm: Kitchen opens for dinner and screening of the race (by reservation only, entry fees apply)

– Party featuring FASHION TV AND FASHION VODKA, hosted by myself, “celebrity party blogger” (wow feels weird saying it, huh)

10.30pm: LINGERIE FASHION SHOW by VALISERE with 10 international models

– 3 DJs!

Headline DJ: FORMER RACE CAR DRIVER TURNED DJ and UK’s rising star, DJ Ben Joseph.
(This stellar DJ has performed alongside Gareth Emery, Marcel Woods, John O’Callaghan, Michael Woods and Cosmic Gate.)

DJ Ben Joseph will be supported by two lovely ladies, DJ Angie Vu Ha and DJ Foxxxy.

– Supported by McLaren – Get up close with one of the world’s fastest road cars, the MCLAREN MP4-12C

Looking forward to trying the Fashion Vodka, being fashioned by Valisere, and being in a beautiful place with beautiful people. (All tables are almost sold out, if you are still keen to book a table, feel free to hit me up.) Hope some of you can join me!

Featured in TASTE magazine for my Passion, Banana Bourbon Wantons and FREE Chocolate from Laurent Bernard!

Thanks to you wonderful people who actually care to occasionally click on my blog, the new TASTE magazine has done a feature on me for their JUNE issue, thinking that someone out there would be interested to see the dirty lil’ details of my energetic, busy life. I was so excited to spill all the secrets! You can read it in full screen here.

A big theme of TASTE’s e-magazine was PASSION, and it was an honour that the good people there saw me as an example of someone who works hard towards their goals and dreams. They asked me how I kept up with my incomprehensible busy life.

Energy is easy. You drive yourself with passion, heart, from the inside and of course… food.

The best food for energy and also my go-to-grab-snack is bananas, and being a magazine centred around food, Purple Sage asked me for a recipe. I thought, “crap, what the heck?” So, don’t mind me, and my silly recipe.

Banana wantons with maple syrup, mixed with a bit of bourbon… perfect for a nut like me who loves a sinful snack! Alcohol is always optional.

And now the fun part… FREEBIES!

3 lucky winners will be able to receive a 6pc chocolate gift box from Laurent Bernard (worth $23 each).
All you have to do is answer their simple question and follow the instructions on TASTE e-magazine (page 19). Contest closes FRIDAY, 22 JUNE NOON.

I’m especially happy to be giving away chocolate in a box to my readers because –
1) I like the Laurent Bernard chocolatier at Mhd Sultan
2) I loooove chocolate.

C’mon, join my chocolate contest lah, everybody loves chocolate.

A big THANK YOU to Purple Sage’s Taste Magazine for the feature!
