Razzle, Dazzle and Zazzle Me

I’ve been sick at home for about 2 weeks, so instead of going out, I’m just going to sit in my swivel-ly chair, spin around and write about it…

Nothing wrong with going out and having a bit of fun
Tonight is all about u and me, baby

Sparks we can’t deny, when there’s fireworks in the sky

Starlight, starbright, where shall we go tonight?
The nigh so young, why don’t you decide.

Opening this week: SAUCE for your tastebuds, SAUCE for your thirst

Review for SAUCE Bar and Grill

I have been desperately trying to diet, but it seems to be getting harder as I get hungrier… no thanks at all to cute concept pop-up shop ups like this.

The good lookin’ kids who run the Butter Factory decided to get cookin’, and came up with a new bar and grill that will be opening THIS WEEK along Esplanade @ Theatres on the Bay.

SAUCE Bar & Grill whisked me away to daydreams of the summer, where very American picnics come out to play.

When DJ Andrew T asked me to think of all the sauces I know, I could only think of three.

“Tomato, chilli… does thai sweet chilli count seperately?” Who am I kidding, that was pathetic.

FOOD
The dine-in menu has a selection of mains from the grill like Pork Rack, Steak, King Prawns, Hot dog and Burgers. Each main comes with 2 complimentary side accompaniments and 3 recommended sauces from the full saucy selection.

With a collection of 17 gourmet sauces to seduce me (my favourite was the sauce with jalapenos), it was definitely getting hot in here.

My only complaint is that as opposed to having the sauces placed on a table in the middle, the “sauce table”, obviously being the rockstar of SAUCE bar, could have been decorated a little nicer. I spent the first 5 minutes wondering where the sauces were, and the next 5 minutes deciding where to dip my fingers.

Grab and go, or choose to chill – have your tasty treats any way you want. With an alfresco courtyard as well as a convenient takeaway kiosk (burgers, hotdogs, salads), this place is postcard perfect for those looking to hustle, bustle, or shuffle.

Bumped into Olivia, another blogger who was also nominated for the Singapore Blog Awards competition I am in. She did an entry on SAUCE too on her blog.

DRINK
In the exact spot that used to be the bar 7ate9, opposite Harry’s Bar, I can definitely see myself catching up with friends after work for a bite, burger and some lemonade. Oh, the lemonade. I know it sounds silly, but the soft sweet drink slid down my lips, and since I tasted it in New York I’ve really not had any in Singapore like it.

I can’t stop thinking about you, Mr Garden Lemonade.

You put the ‘moan’ in ‘lemoanade’.

I just crossed my legs.

The garden lemonade I had is non-alcoholic, but you might like the dirty lemonade better.

PROMOTIONS
If you had a bad or good day, or you just need a drink, try and make it for happy hour (5 to 7pm) – because each pint of Asahi beer purchased (S$8+) comes with a free mini hot dog. In some bellies, this happy hour would call for a happy meal.

MY VERDICT
The prime waterfront location is pretty, and I have a feeling that the crowd this hotspot will attract, will be pretty sexy too.

Photo Update: My Week Is Just Like Yours… Only Faster

Hello! Been a while since I updated on what’s really happening in real life, and my friends say that I don’t share enough on my blog, so I’m going to spill it.

There’s so much to do sometimes, it’s hard for my poor blogging fingers to keep up! I wish I could share it all with you – have you see what I see, do what I do…

I’ve been using my new HTC Sensation for a month now and although I’m still learning how to get used to it (it’s a bit more complicated than the iPhone 4 but has better capabilities in colours, camera, social media streams), I’m going to do a post here using the WordPress app on my Sensation!

I’ll try to point out a few interesting things that I’ve loved lately, but do you really want to follow me on this virtual journey?

Here we go, close your eyes, don’t fall asleep, let’s rocketeer.

On weekdays, you might catch mini me either running around my office, or outside of it. Don’t be surprised if you see a tiny lightning flash in stiletto heels, always in a flurry.

No, I’m not an SIA stewardess, nor a model, and definitely not a full-time blogger. I work full-time in sales for an American MNC, so work is always busy and always good.

I would prefer not to say too much about what I do, because if i tell you…….. I might have to tickle you.

When I’m not at work, I’m usually at home, sweet home. Screaming nieces and nephews under 7 are a weekend treat.

Must watch this weekend!: HOMECOMING

Movie Advertorial

Homecoming Movie

I was fortunate enough to be invited to the premiere of one of Singapore’s better movie productions, HOMECOMING – out in Singaporean and Malaysian cinemas 3rd Feb 2011.

This is a long post and I realized that you can actually google/read many other well-written reviews about the said movie on the internet (I like this one).

I am just going to cut to the chase that all in all, I found this local film a humorous and heartwarming. It is very relevant and celebrant for the new Rabbit Year and I truly enjoyed Jack Neo’s cross-dressing performance as Ah Niu’s (popular Malaysian singer) mother. The dynamics of all the different characters intertwine well, and I believe our respective local superstars have done us quite proud.

Honestly, all the actors are very ‘swee’ but Jack Neo’s performance is stellar.

Here is my down low of Homecoming’s gala premiere and post-party.

PRE-SHOW TEASERS

My friend Terence, one of the partners from HomeRun Asia and his girlfriend, Andrea.
Thank you for the invite you two!

My friend Kanny had worked with Jack Neo before, as well as co-hosted with Mark Lee on Channel U’s tv series Wonderchef. Naturally, she was excited to check out the movie so I had to invite her along to be my movie + popcorn buddy!

Homecoming Movie

The ironic thing is, Kanny has met famous Hong Kong chef Daniel Koh, who is the character that Mark Lee plays in said movie Homecoming. Mark Lee wears his apron and accent in the movie.

Here we are with Alvin from OMY SG. He also has one of the most read blogs in Singapore Alvinology, and everything he writes gets thousands of views.

Going to a movie premiere with a Mediacorp-contract actress like Kanny Ling En meant meeting a lot of her fellow contacts from the film industry…
Here we are with Quan Xi, who is one of Mediacorp’s long time and most revered actors.
On the right is Molby, the boss of the agency who is representing her, Wawa Artistes Network.
Homecoming Movie

Quan Xi dressed and behaved really humbly, and we had several long chats about the industry and industry people. Quan Xi acted in Homecoming as well as one of Jacelyn Tay’s family members.

There was a bit of a media frenzy when all the movie actors came on stage for half an hour full of special appearances and some contest games.

Spoke with Koe Yeet, Malaysian actress and one of the female leads in Homecoming. She was quite cute and sweet. I tried to ask her what the Malaysia film industry was like, although she did not know a lot of my friends in the Malaysian media and entertainment scene – she says her Mom does not allow her to get involved with the nightlife in Malaysia.

Homecoming Movie

Ex movie producer, local icon and show stealer Jack Neo aka Karen Neo makes a very public appearance with his starring cross-dressing role in this film. He was very warm to talk to and engaged in more than pleasantries with us. I was quite surprised that he took the time to leave his “VIP only” area to come down to our level – he was the only star who did this and he is the biggest star there by my books.

We asked him questions only about his work in this movie as well as the industry, and he shared his passion for acting.

He had some awful press throughout last year with all the sex scandals, but it’s ok now because we Singaporeans like to talk only. We will forgive and forget.

Welcome back, Jack Neo.

CALLING ALL MOVIE BUFFS – Singaporeans, Malaysians and Ang Mohs!
Forget Hollywood for one weekend. Do yourself as well as your local economy a favour this (Chinese) new year and catch HOMECOMING.

MUST WATCH!

You can read my teaser for this movie here.

Thank you supporting media partner OMY SG for their invite and warm hospitality as well.

Missing girl: Cui XiuLing

Ok, so she’s not really missing and it’s just another Channel 8 drama – but I found my heart beating faster and myself tearing while watching this!

I hardly watch TV – Chinese TV – but this story’s plot is rather gripping and the talents do do a decent acting job. Basically, character ShuFang (played by Cheryl Desiree Chan) and Cui XiuLing (played by Kanny Theng Ling En) go missing. It turns out that Cui XiuLing is now somewhat of a high end social escort and is linked to another ongoing investigation case. Ooh.

Photo credit: Kanny Theng fan club admin page

With a star studded cast, this, like most Channel 8 dramas, will be the show all households and kopitiams around Singapore will be tuned into.

Other starring actors: Rui En, Chen Li Ping, Tay Ping Hui, Andie Chen, Kola Zhou, Joshua Ang, Zzen Zhang.
Directed By: Paul Yuen Shu Wei

Today, in a culmination of family problems, emotions and cops running around everywhere, 11 Aug is the last episode Cui XiuLing (Kanny Theng) is in.

I think it will be explosive!
